Progressive muscle relaxation

Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) is a time-tested technique that involves systematically tensing and relaxing different muscle groups in the body to promote deep relaxation.

The Benefits of Progressive Muscle Relaxation

  1. Stress Reduction: By releasing tension from the muscles, PMR leads to a greater sense of calmness and well-being, helping to reduce stress levels .

  2. Muscle Tension Relief: Through targeted muscle relaxation, PMR can alleviate physical discomfort such as headaches, back pain, and neck stiffness.

  3. Improved Sleep Quality: PMR before bedtime promotes better sleep by relaxing the body and mind, resulting in increased energy levels and enhanced mood.

  4. Anxiety Reduction: PMR helps manage anxiety by promoting relaxation and reducing the anxiety response to stimuli, which may help you to cope better with stress.

  5. Mind-Body Connection: PMR fosters awareness of the mind-body connection, helping you to understand your body's response to stress and relaxation cues.

  6. Enhanced Emotional Well-being: By promoting tranquility and inner peace, PMR contributes to emotional well-being and resilience against everyday stressors.

I suggest you do this practice lying down on your bed or yoga mat. If you are lying on the floor please support your head with a cushion or pillow. You might like to place a bolster under your knees and cover yourself with a blanket.

Find a comfortable spot, close your eyes, and let my soothing voice guide you through the relaxation process. Your journey to relaxation begins with a single breath. This exercise will take around 20 minutes so give yourself time to release any tension in the body.
