Let’s Change the Conversation
Is Weight Loss Worth It?
In my book The Elephant in the Room, I ask: when I finally lost weight after decades of dieting, why couldn’t I stay slim?
The Elephant in the Room is not another diet or 10-step programme to weight-loss. It’s an invitation to stop trying to fix our bodies and start listening to them.
Are you tired of the never-ending cycle of dieting and sick of social size-shaming?
From social size-shaming to the endless stream of dieting advice, women are constantly told how to look, eat, and live. But it’s not just about diets—women’s roles have consistently been undervalued compared to men, and larger ladies earn even less than their slimmer colleagues or heavier men.
Why is women’s worth still measured by how we look?
Women’s appearance is valued ahead of their achievements, with the media pushing the belief that beauty equals success, and the diet and beauty industries profiting from the pursuit of the latest look. Size discrimination continues to rise, largely unchallenged. It’s time to speak up and address the elephant in the room.
Let’s change the conversation. My book The Elephant in the Room challenges the diet myths and societal pressures we’ve been sold about body image, food, and success. Through this journey, we’ll uncover the real weight women carry, debunk diet culture, embrace mindful living, and confront the expectations that have defined us for too long.
Three Questions I Answer in the Book
-
Weight of Women
Why do we get fat in the first place? Explores why we gain weight, how childhood rules, biology, emotional comfort and social expectations shape women’s bodies.
-
Debunking Diets
If diets work, why do we have to go back on them? Examines the commercial, cultural and psychological forces that keep women returning to plans and products that promise transformation.
-
The Wisdom Within
Why do we believe everyone else has the answer to our struggles? Highlights how reconnecting with our bodies rather than trying to following external advice helps build a more sustainable relationship with food.
