Meditation preparation

Meditation can feel quite daunting and sometimes even sitting down takes effort. The truth is that being with yourself and your thoughts feels vulnerable and we often will find anything to distract ourselves, from ourselves. I love this quote:

Meditation practice isn’t about trying to throw ourselves away and become something better.
Its about befriending who we already are
— Pema Chodron

Here is a simple practice for you to just arrive, wherever you find yourself. Become awareness of sitting in your body. Breathe.

When we learn to be still, we notice the busyness of our minds. Sitting reveals this state, it doesn’t create it. How can we escape our spinning minds?

Its the brain’s job to generate thoughts - around 60 thousand a day. Having the thoughts are not the problem - its believing them that can cause us anguish. Meditation is a practice of being aware of your thoughts without letting yourself be drawn into the stories that the mind creates.

Find a space, maybe light a candle. Sit down comfortably and let my voice guide you in the present moment. I play my singing bowl at the end so please continue to sit for as as you need. I suggest starting with around 5 minutes.
