Berry Nice: My Autumn Crumble Recipe

Using Seasonal Fruits for a Perfect Autumn Crumble

Autumn is the season for foraging, and blackberries are abundant right now. I love using them to make a crumble that’s simple, and tasty. While blackberries aren’t around, this recipe works beautifully with other seasonal fruits like apples, plums, or pears. It’s all about making the most of what’s available and enjoying the natural taste of the fruit.

A Crunchy Oat and Seed Topping

I use oats and seeds in the topping instead of flour, which gives the crumble a satisfying crunch. There's no need to drown the fruit in sugar.. It's the mix of sharp, juicy berries with the sweetness of the crumble that makes it so satisfying." I enjoy the softness of the fruit combined with the crunchy topping.

A Simple, Satisfying Dessert That Warms the Soul

There's something deeply comforting about this crumble. It's simple to make and full of flavours and textures that feel nourishing, especially as the days grow cooler. And of course, serving it with custard or ice cream adds a bit of extra sweetness, balancing the tartness of the berries.

Enjoying Seasonal Fruit Mindfully

There’s something special about using fruit when it's in season—whether it's foraged berries or apples from the garden. Not only is it more flavoursome, but it also connects us to the natural rhythm of the seasons. This crumble is a reflection of that simplicity: using what’s around and turning it into something delicious.
